When first asked to price this work we where a little perplexed to we would master repousee. Having a
positive attitude we embraced the work with great enthusiasm which proved lacking and we soon
discovered it was no substitute for the hard slog of learning the new skill.
Jason purchased the required Repousee' Tools which are much larger than jewelery tools and began to
learn this new skill. Firstly Repousee means from the rear i.e; punch in reverse which takes some time to
get ones mind set adjusted. The branch scroll Patterns were made in MDF for the bronze foundry to be
cast in gunmetal as G1L as the foundry had no G1L so a small amount of lead added in the cast adds
for more elasticity in the bends. The extra annealing was required to compensate.
To replicate undamaged leaves was easy as we made a pattern off the undamaged piece, it was
figuring out the pattern making required to reproduce the missing pieces and what they should look like.
It was Trial and error until it was developed into a usable skill, with a little natural artistic flair
Obviously we had no bench mark to price this work, but we put this down to experience as the price for
the work for was as great as both our knowledge and skill at the time. Knowing all that we would not have
missed this project even though it was a financial disaster. The waxing and installation of the monument
the supporting posts was done on site by the main contractor.
